HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 25, 2024) – A 22-year-old Zeeland man remains in the Ottawa County Jail after an early Christmas morning robbery of a convenience store just east of Holland.
On Wednesday, Austin Buter was arraigned on unarmed robbery and habitual offender fourth offense charges stemming from the incident at the Oasis Mobil Mart off of Adams Street and 96th Avenue. Around 12:40 AM on December 25th, a man wearing a ball cap and a face mask walked into the building, poured himself a cup of coffee, went to the counter, and subsequently threw the liquid into the face of the 45-year-old female clerk on duty. The suspect then walked around the counter, grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, and fled, while the victim had to be treated for minor burns to the neck and chest.
After nearly a month of investigation, sheriff’s deputies arrested Buter last Tuesday without incident. He was ordered held on $25,000 bond by 58th District Court Judge Bradley Knoll.
No date for a preliminary hearing was disclosed by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
