ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 31, 2023) – The Zeeland City Council will get right to work as 2024 begins.
The governing panel of that Lakeshore community holds its first meeting of the New Year on Tuesday evening. The 7 PM business session includes a proposed agreement to hold the city harmless during work on demolishing the building at 135/137 East Main, as a wall at 139 East Main that was uncovered is in better shape than expected, and the appointment of former City Councilman and County Commissioner Al Dannenberg to represent Zeeland on the West Michigan Regional Airport Authority, replacing Doug Barense, who had resigned.
In the 6 PM work-study session beforehand, Council will get updates on a proposed Citizen’s Academy, on developing a Smart Tech application in conjunction with an overhaul of the city’s website and online citizen access, and review the results of a citizen survey conducted this past fall on whether to replace the synthetic ice skating rink at the Elm Street Park with a “real” ice skating surface.
The work-study and business sessions for the Zeeland City Council will be held in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). A link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
