BLOOMINGDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 28, 2023) – A Bloomingdale couple in their mid-60’s lost their lives following a pre-dawn fire at their home on Thursday.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to a residence off of 24th Avenue near 44th Street around 4:30 AM. When they arrived, their found the structure completely engulfed by flames. While crews from three local fire departments brought the blaze under control, they found the bodies of a 66-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman inside, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person, who was sleeping in an unattached garage, was roused and taken away safely.
No names were immediately disclosed, no cause of the fire was immediately determined, and no dollar estimate of the damage sustained was immediately made, as the matter remains under investigation by a number of authorities, including the Michigan State Fire Marshal’s Office.
