LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 28, 2023) – The lowest jobless rate in Michigan is in Ottawa County.
That’s according to monthly numbers not seasonally adjusted released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Among the 83 Michigan counties, Ottawa County topped the list at 2.5 percent for November, a tenth of a percentage point below that of Clinton, Kent and Washtenaw counties. That 2.5% is six tenths less than in October, and three tenths under the level of a year ago.
As for Allegan County, it’s 2.8 percent jobless rate for November was tied for sixth statewide with Barry and Livingston counties. It’s also six tenths less than October and three tenths for the same time in 2022.
The Lakeshore counties were among 65 across Michigan that saw unemployment dip last month. As for the major labor markets, 16 of the 17 in the state had fewer people looking for work in November, and 13 of those had employment increases.
“Employment expanded in most regional labor markets during November. Payroll jobs generally rose in retail trade and declined in leisure and hospitality across Michigan metro areas.” – Wayne Rourke, labor market information director for the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics
