GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A county jail term and probation lies ahead for a 33-year-old Spring Lake mother who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the drowning death of her six-year-old son in June.
Miranda Rowe, who had been free on bond since her admission of guilt of third-degree child neglect charges on August 27th, was sentenced on Monday by Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Karen Miedema to six months in jail, followed by two years of probation. According to state law, Rowe could have faced up to two years in state prison, or five years if she had a prior child abuse conviction.
Iain Rowe and his mother went to Holland State Park on June 6th, and the boy’s body was found by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team the following day just north of the Holland Channel. A three-month investigation ensued before charges were brought against Miranda Rowe.
