OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 12, 2023) – The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners is back to its full compliment of 11 members.
On Tuesday, the panel selected Kendra Wenzel to represent District 6, which includes nine of Georgetown Township’s 17 voting precincts, through the end of 2024. She replaces Kyle Terpstra, one of just three incumbent board members from last year, who had resigned a month ago. Wentzel, a retired sales person who has been active in the Ottawa County Republican Party, beat out four other finalists from 11 applicants for the position by getting six of the nine votes from the other board members.
Also during the six-hour biweekly business meeting at the Fillmore Street Complex, the Ottawa County Board approved agreements with 123NET and Tilson Technology to trigger a $14 million state Realizing Opportunities with Broadband Infrastructure Networks grant. This would help in establishing nearly 400 miles of new fiberoptic lines, which would provide Internet access to about 10,000 customers, along with building new towers to support this effort. While this initiative should begin sometime next year, 123Net began in October a similar broadband expansion in Allegan County.
