SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 11, 2023) – Addressing one of the concerns of a special Task Force on short term rentals is on the agenda for the Saugatuck City Council during its biweekly meeting on Monday evening.
The city’s Planning and Zoning Director, Ryan Cummins, is asking the governing panel to authorize the Planning Commission for police powers ordinance recommendations on this matter. Such authorizing would help enable the commission to regulate licensing and activities of STR city wide. The Task Force had met for several months earlier this year, finalizing its report at the end of September, which has been presented to both the Planning Commission and the City Council.
Also on the meeting agenda is a resolution request to extend the current moratorium on waterfront commercial development and construction within the city, which was set to expire at month’s end, to March 31st. City planners say the extension is needed to finish adopting new regulations governing new site developments, new building construction, and existing building expansion. The moratorium has been in place since this past April.
The Saugatuck City Council holds its 7 PM business session in the second floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the meeting agenda and supporting documents is here.
