BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 8, 2023) – A three-vehicle pileup northeast of Zeeland on Friday afternoon hospitalized two of the drivers involved.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the junction of Port Sheldon Street and 72nd Avenue around 12:20 PM. That was where an eastbound SUV apparently went through a four-way stop, crashed into two other vehicle in the intersection, and veered into a nearby utility pole, knocking power lines onto the wrecked vehicles.
While Consumers Energy crews hoisted up the lines, Blendon Township Fire/Rescue staffers extricated all of the motorists involved, and LIFE EMS dispatched two of the drivers – a 66-year-old Zeeland Woman and a 77-year-old Hudsonville man – to undisclosed “area hospitals” for treatment of minor injuries. The other driver involved, a 38-year-old West Olive man, along with a 31-year-old Zeeland man riding in one of the vehicles, were not hurt.
It took about a couple of hours for crews to remove the vehicles and downed power lines from the intersection before it was cleared for travel again.
