OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 22, 2023) – The latest episode in the daytime drama that is the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners occurred on Tuesday.
Obscuring any of the listed items on the meeting agenda was a sometimes passionate discussion over a claim last week by the Ottawa Food Advisory Board that it would “pause the model of Ottawa Food as it’s been operating” due to the elimination of a full-time coordinator following county budget cuts. A resolution to reinstate this coordinator wasn’t included among the agenda items before the board, and members received information during the meeting not included in the agenda packet that was made available to the public beforehand.
It was another example of what some may say has been poor management of county affairs since the current board was installed on January 3rd. State Senate Minority Whip Roger Victory, a second-term Republican from Hudsonville, voiced some concerns.
The county board on Tuesday did establish a timetable for replacing District 6 Commissioner Kyle Terpstra, who resigned last week for personal and professional reasons. Applications will be accepted through December 5th, with interviews a couple of days later, before a vote to fill his seat is slated for the last scheduled board meeting of the calendar year on December 12th.
