HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 20, 2023) – There’s another bridge near Zeeland that may need rebuilding soon.
During its monthly meeting this past Thursday, the Ottawa County Road Commission approved establishing a 22-ton weight limit for a bridge that allows 104th Avenue to cross the Black Creek, north of the James Street T-intersection. This cautionary move came following a recent discovery of what commission staffers say was some structural deterioration of the span. While the bridge is still safe for most of the traveling public, any vehicles weighing more than 22 tons must seek alternate routes.
Similar weight issues led the Road Commission to rebuild a bridge on Byron Road between 72nd Avenue and I-196 last year, and on 96th Avenue between Adams and Ottagan streets this summer.
