HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 23-year-old is in Ottawa County Jail after a high-speed chase just before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, involving police from Holland, Zeeland and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Douglas said the incident started when a deputy attempted stopping a Toyota Camry weaving in and out of traffic while speeding west on I-1-96 in Zeeland Township.
The driver left the freeway at the Byron Road exit, zipping west on the business loop and intentionally crashing into a Sheriff’s cruiser near 96th Avenue, then into two Zeeland Police cruisers before heading north on 112th Avenue, then west on Lakewood Boulevard.
The driver again hit a Sheriff’s cruiser near Beeline, losing control and running off the south side of Lakewood, showing down before crashing into a building.
Remarkably, no one was physically hurt, police said. The building had only minor damage.
The suspect, whose name is withheld pending arraignment, faces a list of charges, including fleeing and eluding, felonious assault on a police officer, and operating while intoxicated, among others.
