SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 13, 2023) – A long-standing matter will be before the Saugatuck City Council in its biweekly business meeting on Monday evening.
It has been nearly 15 years since the topic of what to do with 169 acres the city owns in the vicinity of 63rd Street and 134th Avenue was first discussed in earnest, although the topic has been bandied about for decades, according to City Manager Ryan Heise. It was initially intended to be an airport site, but its location in the Kalamazoo River corridor has made keeping the land as a high-quality nature site.
During the meeting, the Parks and Public Works Committee will make a presentation to Gregory Muncey and other City Council members on the findings of a Strengths, Opportunity, Aspiration and Results meeting on the area hosted by Holland’s Outdoor Discovery Center.
Council will also be choosing a Mayor and Mayor Pro-tem, as it will be the first meeting for new members Holly Anderson, Russ Gardner and Logan White. The session begins at 7 PM in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.), with an online link to the agenda here.
