Seven from the Hope College men’s soccer team received All-MIAA honors for the 2023 season, including two first-team selections: senior Matt Wimmer and sophomore Cole Pauly.
Seniors Ethan Jansen and Jake Lyon joined juniors Daniel Hesselbein and Mario Hrvojevic and freshman Josh Weigel on the All-MIAA Second Team.
Wimmer (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Detroit Jesuit) is an All-MIAA midfielder for the second time in his career. The business major earned All-MIAA honors as a sophomore.
Wimmer recorded one assist in seven MIAA games for the Flying Dutchmen while serving as a primary conduit between Hope’s defense and offense.
Pauly (Mundelein, Illinois / Mundelein HS) received All-MIAA First Team honors as a defender for the second consecutive season. In addition to anchoring the back line of the Flying Dutchmen’s defense, Pauly also scored twice during MIAA play this season.
Hrvojevic (Lincolnwood, Illinois / Loyola Academy) claimed All-MIAA recognition for the second time in his career. The mechanical engineering major was a first-team selection in 2022. Hrvojevic scored two goals and one assist during league play.
Jansen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) is an All-MIAA Second Team selection as a forward for the second time in his career. The mechanical engineering and physics major also earned the honor in 2022. Jansen tied for third in MIAA play with four assists while also scoring one goal.
Lyon (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan) received All-MIAA Second Team distinction as a defender for the second time in his career. The economics major also claimed the honor in 2022.
Hesselbein (Barrington, Illinois / Barrington Community) made the All-MIAA Second Team as a goalkeeper. The physical and health education major recorded a 1.03 goals-against-average and a .720 save percentage in MIAA play.
Weigel (Naperville, Illinois / Naperville Central) is an All-MIAA Second Team midfielder in his first season with the Flying Dutchmen.
