HEATH TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 22, 2023) – A 32-year-old Allegan man could face charges stemming from a hit-and-run situation near Hamilton on Monday morning that led to three persons being hospitalized, including the suspect.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to Lincoln Road (M-40) near 127th Avenue at 11:25 AM. There they found two vehicles rolled over and in a ditch. As they got the occupants in those vehicles out and tended to their injuries, which were considered to be non-life threatening, they found out just exactly what went on.
It appears as if the suspect driver was driving his sedan northbound when he rearended a vehicle near 125th Avenue. Instead of staying at the scene, the suspect then sped off at what witnesses say was a high rate of speed, passing several slower vehicle and semi trucks, before rearending another vehicle near 127th Avenue, which led to the double rollover situation.
The driver of the first vehicle hit was not hurt, while those involved in the second collision were taken to an undisclosed “local hospital” for treatment. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the case, which remains under investigation, and the Allegan County Prosecuting Attorney’s office is expected to review the matter before determining what charges to file against the unnamed suspect.
