SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 19, 2023) – A Lakeshore community that has been looking into the future of Short Term Rentals will get a report on the matter on Thursday night.
The Saugatuck Planning Commission holds a special 6 PM meeting to go over a final report from a special Short Term Rental Task Force that has been taking public input and conducting hearings on the matter over the past several months. Among the findings in its report is that there was no support of instituting a city-wide cap or establishing a lottery system for limiting the number of STR’s, but further review and analysis is needed on the matter; addressing concerns about noise, trash and occupancy from an enforcement perspective should be a top priority for the city’s administration; and enforcing existing regulations while reviewing the recommendations in the report would benefit residents and community stakeholders.
The special meeting is ahead of the commission’s regularly-scheduled session at 7 PM, in which the panel is expected to review language for a waterfront development ordinance draft, as well as hold a public hearing as to amending the ordinance involving outdoor seating and dining areas for downtown restaurants.
The Planning Commission meets in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.).
