HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — An 8-year-old Jenison girl went by ambulance to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital after being hit by a car in Georgetown Township, just before 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020.
It happened after she ran ahead of her family into the road, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt. The girl and her family had been walking along the east side of the 7600 block of 28th Avenue, headed to the Dale Wagner Park, a Little League complex on the west side of the road.
The girl ran into the path of a Toyota Sienna minivan, with an 85-year-old Jenison woman at wheel, Wendt said in an email to media — and the driver had no time to evade the child. No one else was physically hurt, Wendt said.
Neither speed nor alcohol are factors in this crash.
Police shut down 28th Avenue was for about an hour during the crash investigation.
