Four Hope College student-athletes have received weekly honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association: Abby Koops in women’s diving, Jenna Mustapha in women’s soccer, Addie VanderWeide in volleyball and Will Webb in men’s golf.
This is the ninth time in her career that Koops (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern HS) has received the honor. The junior nursing major finished runner-up on both boards at the Be Better; Invitational, competing against the University of Michigan and Calvin University. Koops posted a score of 197.20 on the three-meter board, outpacing the third-place finisher by more than 20 points. While the one-meter board event was abbreviated due to time, Koops still placed second in the event.
This is the first MIAA weekly honor for Mustapha (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern). The senior defender helped the Flying Dutch to a 3-0 shutout win versus Adrian and a 3-1 victory over Trine. Hope scored off a corner kick in both games with Mustapha delivering the corner kick for both. The chemistry major played 175 out of 180 minutes.
This is the second weekly honor of the season for VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian). The outside hitter and business major assisted the Flying Dutch to a 3-1 record, including a 3-1 victory attAlbion, a 3-0 home victory against Kalamazoo and a 3-2 victory against Chicago. Hope also lost to the third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 3-1. VanderWeide’s dominant performance throughout the week totaled 76 kills, 191 total attempts (.277), 42 digs, five blocks, and 82.5 points. VanderWeide concluded the week with an average of 4.75 kills per set, 4 service aces, and 2.63 digs per set.
This is the first career weekly award for Webb (Lake Forest, Illinois / Lake Forest). The junior communication major earned medalist honors in back-to-back tournaments last week. On Monday, Webb shot an even-par 72 at Muskegon Country Club during the second MIAA Jamboree of the season. On Saturday, Webb followed that with a 4-under-par 67 at Trine University’s Zollner Golf Course during the third MIAA Jamboree.
