LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 22, 2023) – Unemployment receded a little bit along the Lakeshore last month.
According to numbers released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, not seasonally-adjusted jobless rates stood at 3.5 percent for Ottawa County and 3.6 percent for Allegan County in August. That’s down one tenth and two tenths of a percentage point, respectively, from the previous month, but are still four tenths and two tenths of a percentage point above the levels seen in August of 2022.
These figures reflect statewide trends that are considered typical for this time of year, according to agency officials. The Lakeshore counties were among 76 in Michigan that saw unemployment rates decline this August as compared to July.
