Arlene Rose Van Hekken, age 89, of Holland, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
Arlene was a long time member of Fellowship Reformed Church and was actively involved with numerous church functions and Kid’s Hope. She was a hard working waitress/hostess the majority of her career, the most recent establishment’s being Peking House and Logan’s Roadhouse, of which she finally retired at age 80.
Arlene was blessed with the gift of gab and truly enjoyed meeting and talking to people. She considered everyone a friend. At home, she enjoyed worrying about the weeds in her flower beds and coming up with new ways to re-do her landscaping every year. In her younger years she was an avid bowler on many leagues and became the first woman in Holland to bowl a 300 game.
Arlene was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years Leslie Van Hekken; infant daughter; her parents, Ervin and Mamie (Merritt) O’Connor; sibling’s, Charles O’Connor, Elaine Phillips, Lois Murphy and Barbara Bolks.
She will be deeply missed by her children; Christy (Ed) Baker, Steve (Stacey) Vande Vusse, Barb (Greg) Drumheller, Doug (Karen) Van Hekken, Dave (Lynn) Van Hekken, Craig (Connie) Van Hekken. grandchildren; Samantha (Will) Chamberlin, Erica (Jason) Bringedahl, Spencer Vande Vusse, Jesika (Eric) Lee, Cody Van Hekken, Dustin DePree, Breanna DePree, Dan (Olivia) Van Hekken, Tom (Brianne) Van Hekken, Mike (Laura) Van Hekken, Heather (Jerry) Coleman, Christopher (Jennifer) Van Hekken, Andy (Alina) Van Hekken, Curt Van Hekken, Cortney (Ben) Carlson, Crystal Wright, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place on Friday, September 22nd from 5-7pm at Fellowship Reformed Church (2165 Lakewood Blvd) in Holland. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00am, also at Fellowship Reformed Church. A private burial will take place at Lakewood Cemetery.
