John D. Hughes, age 86, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023.
John was generous with his time and talents and loved to tell a good story or two. He was a wonderful, loving father who was always there for his children and grandchildren. While he was able, he was active in his church, in his garden, and on the tennis court. Numerous summer vacations were spent camping and fishing, and his art and baked goods have been shared with many. He loved to travel with Faith, his wife, and did so as long as her health allowed. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Loriann) Hughes and Arenda (Rob) VanKlompenberg, thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by them and many others who were fortunate to call him their friend.
His ashes will be interred next to his wife in the city where they spent most of their married life, Fremont, California.
Memorial contributions in John’s honor can be made to one of the organizations researching a cure to Alzheimer’s, the disease that claimed his wife, or to Mt Herman (Info@mounthermon.org), the Christian camp where he spent many faith- filled, relaxing weeks.
