ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 6, 2023) – A pair of injury crashes about a mile apart in Allendale on Tuesday evening kept Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies and other first responders busy.
The first came around 5:30 PM, when a northbound sedan on 60th Avenue, approaching Warner Street, went out of control, veered to the right, struck a tree and rolled over several times. The unnamed 18-year-old Allendale man driving the vehicle was taken to Corewell Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, while the roadway was blocked off for more than an hour. Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Smoes didn’t say what led the vehicle to lose control.
Less than a half hour later, another roll-over crash occurred on Lake Michigan Drive near Library Lane, west of 60th Avenue. Smoes said that at that location, a westbound sedan had went into a Michigan-turn in the median, looking to go east, when it went into the path of an eastbound Jeep. The subsequent collision caused the Jeep to flip over onto its roof, and its driver, an unnamed 20-year-old Jenison woman, went to Corewell Health-Zeeland Hospital for treatment for minor injuries, while the apparent at-fault motorist, an unnamed 22-year-old Allendale man, was not hurt.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
