UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 17, 2023) – Riley Greene homered and drove in four runs, but the Tigers needed to withstand a three-run Minnesota rally off of Jason Foley in the bottom of the ninth to hold off the Twins in Minneapolis yesterday, 8-7. Detroit was scheduled to the Guardians in Cleveland this evening to begin a four-game series at Progressive Field, but predicted rains compelled officials to call off the contest. There will be a twi-night doubleheader tomorrow evening, with coverage led by Dan Dickerson at 3:45 PM on 99 7/1450 WHTC.
Christopher Morel’s three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning powered the Cubs past the visiting White Sox on the North Side last night, 4-3. Chicago’s teams are idle this evening before returning to action tomorrow for the start of three-game series, with the Cubs hosting the Kansas City Royals in a matinee at Wrigley Field, and the White Sox taking on the Colorado Rockies under the lights at Coors Field in Denver.

A bases-loaded walk to Dom Johnson capped a three-run, 10th-inning rally as the West Michigan Whitecaps upended the visiting South Bend Cubs in suburban Grand Rapids last night, 4-3. The series at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park continues this evening.
