ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 11, 2023) – The vacancy on the 48th Circuit Court bench serving Allegan County has been filled.
Governor Whitmer on Thursday named Matthew Antkoviak to replace the retired Rob Kengis. An attorney and partner in the law practice bearing his family’s name in the city of Allegan, following in his father’s footsteps nearly 25 years ago, Antkoviak has not only served in defending clients in criminal matters, but has represented this court on the State Bar of Michigan’s Representative Assembly, and is a past president of the Allegan County Bar Association. He is currently chairman of the Community Corrections Advisory Board, and is on the board of the Grand Rapids-based Forgotten Man Ministries.
He will assume his judicial duties on August 28th, serving until the next statewide General Election in November, 2024. Kengis had been on the bench for five years before he opted to retire in May after 31 years in the justice system. His successor as County Prosecutor, Myrene Kay Koch, had also reportedly sought this judicial appointment.
