HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 8, 2023) – A 62-year-old woman lost her life on Tuesday morning when she was struck by a freight train south of Holland’s downtown district.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Police Services Captain of Patrol Keith Mulder, officers and other first responders were dispatched shortly after 7 AM to the railroad crossing near East 20th Street and Lincoln Avenue. They found the body of Judy Engweiler near the tracks after it was struck by a southbound CSX train, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Traffic in the central city area was blocked for about two hours. Mulder didn’t go into details as to any other circumstances surrounding the matter, other than to say that neither foul play nor speed are suspected factors, as an investigation continues.
