Julian “Juke” Smit age 79, of Holland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 30, 2023, after fighting 2 blood cancers, Myelodysplastic and Myeloproliferative Neoplasm.
He was born September 19, 1943, in Hamilton, MI and married Rosalyn “Rosie” Bouwer on February 25, 1966. He was a member of Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church where he served may years as vice-president, elder and deacon. He also served as chairman of many committees. He sang in the Good News Mens Quartet along with his sister Arloa as the pianist and brother Earl singing bass and two other friends.
Julian served his country with the Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Susan Smit, his sister Arloa Jurries and his in-laws, Harlan Jurries, Geraldine and Harold Martinie and Morris Gort.
He retired from the Hamilton Farm Bureau where he served as Agronomy Manager for 30 years. He was also on the board of directors of the Michigan Agri Business Association and Allegan County Emergency Management Team.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosalyn “Rosie”; children, Brian and Becky Smit, Heidi Smit; grandson Aidan Smit; brother Earl and Linda Smit; in-laws, Julian and Carolyn Bouwer and Glenda Gort

The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 259 Central Ave., Holland with Rev. Kevin Kornelis officiating. A private family graveside will take place in Pilgrim Home Cemetery with Rev. Chad Steenwyk officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland.
