LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 28, 2023) – Unemployment rose along the Lakeshore last month.
In numbers released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, joblessness in Ottawa County stood at 3.5 percent, tied for fourth among Michigan’s 83 counties, while Allegan County was tied for seventh at 3.7 percent. These are slightly higher than May’s figures of 3.3 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively. A year ago, Ottawa County stood at 3.6 percent, while Allegan was at 3.9 percent.
These figures, which are not seasonally adjusted, reflected what state officials are calling typical June increases across much of Michigan. More than half of the counties had higher unemployment rates when compared with May. However, joblessness continued to be less now than at this time last year.
