Penelope “Poppy” Elizabeth Genzink, infant daughter of Zach and Ashley Genzink, became an angel on July 21, 2023, when she passed peacefully in the loving embrace of her parents into Jesus’ arms. Though her life was cut so short by a diagnosis of Trisomy 13, Poppy’s life was filled with love, and she was an inspiration to all who knew her story.
Born on June 5, 2023, Penelope is the long-awaited sister to the best big brothers Easton and Arlo. Poppy has a large and loving family. She’s the granddaughter of Tim and Jamie Genzink & R. Scott and Janice Vanden Berg, the great-granddaughter of Jim and Jan Holstege & Lyla Vanden Berg. Welcoming Poppy to Heaven with open arms were her great-grandparents Gordon and Mary Genzink, Bob Vanden Berg, & Warner and Frayna DeLeeuw. Poppy is the niece of Matt and Amber Genzink, Kirsten and Bryan Zoet, Taylor and Troy Nykamp, Amanda and Greg Huizenga, & Michael and Jamie Vanden Berg. Her crew of cousins includes Stella Werley, Mason Huizenga, Winnie Genzink, Emmy Huizenga, Thea Genzink, & Owen Zoet.
Poppy’s fan club, and those that deserve mention in her story, are Jason Yakes, Kelli Howland, Julie Green, and the rest of the staff at the Helen DeVos NICU. Memorial contributions in Penelope’s honor can be made to the NICU at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
We’re forever going to miss our Poppy girl, but we know her story and light will continue to illuminate the world, no matter how briefly her flame burned.
