PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 4, 2023) – A 43-year-old Holland woman lost her life on Monday night in what authorities are initially calling an “accidental death” during a fireworks explosion at a residence on Holland’s North Side.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Koster, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the area of 160th Avenue north of Perry Street just after 11 PM on a report of a firework that exploded, injuring several people. When they arrived, they found 10 persons hurt by the incident, and efforts to revive the unnamed victim at the scene were unsuccessful. The other nine were taken to undisclosed “area hospitals” for treatment of injuries that ranged from minor to critical, and several area homes and vehicles were damaged by the force of the explosion.
Koster gave no other details as to what type of explosive was used at that time, or how it was detonated, as the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
