Karen Jean (Assink) Vander Haar, age 81, of Holland, passed into the Gates of Glory on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Karen lived her life with a tenacious faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and grace among her family and friends for whom she was a constant advocate. Karen loved to be social and bring people together.
Karen loved her family deeply and is survived by her husband, David Vander Haar; children: Joy (Randy) Ensing, Greg (Deb) Assink, Michael (Le Ann) Assink, Dan (Marie) Assink, Nancy Leep, Roger (Carol) Leep, Rochelle (Brad) Boes, Susan (Mark) Ermatinger, Denise (Kevin) Dekker, Keith Vander Haar; 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren (with 6 more on the way); sister, Barb (Glen) Meyaard; in-laws Lyle (Carol) Vander Haar, Sandy (John) Zalis.
Karen was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Assink in 2013, granddaughter Kelsey Assink in 2002, great-grandson Hunter Palmbos, daughter-in-law Marnie Assink, and brother, Roland Folkert.
A funeral service to celebrate Karen’s life and faith will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Harlem Reformed Church, 6854 144th Ave, Holland, MI, 49424. Visitation with the family will be Sunday July 2, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th St. Holland, MI 49423.
