ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 7, 2023) – A 28-year-old suburban Grand Rapids man remains in the Allegan County Jail on child porn charges.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled on Thursday in Allegan District Court for Gary Christopher Carlson on eight counts of aggravated child sexual abusive materials, eight counts of using a computer to commit a crime, nine counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and a count of accosting children for immoral purposes. He was taken into custody on June 26th after a multi-agency execution of a search warrant in Wyoming.
According to Allegan County Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Mike Brown, the investigation began in his county after Carlson apparently was hired through an online child care provider to supervise two girls, aged 14 and two. Sheriff Frank Baker said that having a detective specially trained to investigate computer-based crimes was a key to cracking this case promptly.
Carlson is being held on $100,000 bond. The case remains open, and anyone who may have employed the suspect in the past to care for children is asked to contact the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department (269-673-0500).
