JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2023) – A 52-year-old Hudsonville man was injured in a two-vehicle collision southwest of his hometown on Tuesday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jeff Steigenga, the unnamed motorist was northbound on 40th Avenue around 8:45 AM when he apparently drove through a stop sign at Byron Road and was struck by an eastbound vehicle going at about full speed. The force of the collision drove the northbound vehicle into a nearby utility pole, pinning the driver inside.
After being extricated by rescue workers, the man was taken to an “area hospital” in serious condition. the other driver, identified as a 39-year-old Hudsonville woman, along with a 66-year-old female passenger from Havre, Montana, were not hurt.
The intersection, which has seen an increase in traffic due to the seasonal construction closure of eastbound I-196 between the Byron Road and 32nd Avenue exits, was blocked off for about an hour as a result of the collision, which remains under investigation.
