May 20, 2023, marks what would have been the 89th birthday of Suresh Potdar. He and his wife Asha were longtime residents of Holland from 1975-2015 and were originally from India.
Suresh was born in the city of Ahmedabad located in the state of Gujarat (India). He completed his master’s degree specializing in chemistry. His dream was to go abroad, and he first landed a job in London, England where he initially settled with his wife, Asha, in 1967. After a time, he was able to land a job in Holland, Michigan at a company known as Chemetron. So, in 1975, Suresh, Asha, and their two daughters, Vaishali (Potdar) Irvin and Deepali (Potdar) Lavi immigrated from London, England to Holland. They were the first East Indian family to settle in Holland. Suresh worked in the dyestuff and pigment field and eventually became a research manager specializing in yellow and red pigments. In 1979 Chemetron became BASF which was later bought out by Flint Group, at which time Suresh retired.
Suresh and Asha adored the quiet and beautiful town of Holland. They enjoyed Tunnel Park, Holland State Park, and the beautiful tulips on display yearly in May.
Spending time with his family and enjoying pizza and ice cream were Suresh’s favorite things. He was a loving father and devoted husband. Others knew him as a kind, loyal, generous, and hardworking man who loved his family and friends above all. As such, he is remembered fondly by many to this day.
