HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 5, 2023) – An 18-year-old Hudsonville man has been arraigned on charges stemming from a domestic assault situation in southeast Ottawa County on Thursday morning.
On Friday, Zachary Dodde was ordered held on $25,000 bond by Hudsonville District Court Judge Judith Mulder after an arraignment on four counts of Assault & Battery, Felonious Assault, and Aggravated Assault. No mention was initially made as to a preliminary hearing date.
More details came out during the arraignment about the incident in a subdivision off of Riley Street and 24th Avenue. In the initial release following Dodde’s arrest, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Tamminga said that deputies and other first responders were dispatched just before 10 AM on a report of an active domestic assault in progress. The suspect was “actively assaulting multiple individuals” near that residence, according to the report.
During the hearing, it was revealed that an argument had ensued, resulting in a 51-year-old woman being struck and kicked repeatedly. Neighbors who tried to come to the victim’s aid were subsequently assaulted by the suspect. Deputies were able to diffuse the situation and take Dodde into custody, while the unnamed woman was hospitalized in stable condition with facial, rib, cranial and back injuries. No word was initially disclosed about whether the responding neighbors were hurt, or if so, to what extent, during the incident. Prosecutors did not go into any motive for the assault during the hearing.
The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
