KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – And now a story from a few days ago that could have had a bad ending, but didn’t.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers jumped into action quickly at an address on Hutchinson Street on the evening of Saturday, April 15, saving a man who was trapped underneath his vehicle while working on it.
According to first responders, the 50-year-old was trapped underneath when the jack propping up the vehicle slipped. Officers were able to lift the minivan off the man and pull him out to safety.
Authorities say initially, the man was talking, but went into cardiac arrest with no pulse or breathing due to the van compressing his upper torso.
Officers were able to reestablish a pulse and breathing by performing CPR on the man who had been trapped under the vehicle for 10 minutes.
The Public Safety Department posted on Facebook this message: “Lets give a hand to these officers for acting quickly under pressure!”
