HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 26, 2023) – A chance for city of Holland voters to find out for themselves just what they are being asked to vote on this coming Tuesday comes on Wednesday evening.
An informational open house begins at 6 PM in Council Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.), where city staff and council members will be on hand to go over the details of a proposition for selling the DeYoung plant site off of Pine Avenue, as well as land off of Kollen Park Drive, to GDK in exchange for the Verplank Dock site off of West 8th Street. This is part of the Waterfront Holland development initiative aimed at increasing public access to Lake Macatawa, as well as building up commercial and residential opportunities, while the dock operations would be shifted to the DeYoung site, which is in the middle of an industrial area on the lake’s eastern shore.
Holland Mayor Nathan Bocks explained why the normally-scheduled biweekly council work-study session format is being changed for this occasion.
Also on Tuesday, voters living within the Holland Public Schools boundaries will also be asked to approve a five-year-long, one-mill annual levy renewal for operations at the Holland Aquatic Center.
