HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 21, 2023) – As Saturday is Earth Day, two well-known non-profits are teaming together to address environmental issues.
The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area has joined forces with the Outdoor Discovery Center Network to launch a Community Carbon Fund. Although the initiative to collect donations for reducing the collective carbon footprint began late last year, the two entities are using this annual awareness event to “go live” and bring attention to this fund. Money raised will go towards projects led by local non-profit organizations to benefit the environment, such as tree planting, home improvements, and energy efficiency upgrades.
Even for-profit organizations can benefit from embracing sustainability that is being spotlighted this month, according to Joe Sikma, ODC’s Sustainability Manager.
ODC Network will manage the Community Carbon Fund, while the Community Foundation will handle the finances, and a committee of representatives from local government, business, non-profits and civic organizations will give the initiative direction on what projects will receive funds. One of the first efforts financed by this Fund is tree planting near ODC Network’s Dragonflies Discovery Preschool on Holland’s North Side.
