HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 14, 2023) – As River Flood Warnings issued by the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids have expired for West Michigan, the dangers of high waters won’t end when those warnings ended.
Two of the most notable areas are along the Grand River, one where rescuers recently had to retrieve two occupants from a vehicle that drifted into the river after trying to negotiate high water over Indian Mounds Road in Grandville, and the other being Van Lopik Avenue just east of the M-231 bridge over the Grand River between Allendale and Grand Haven.

That reference to whitewater may inspire some adventurous souls to get into those high river waters for kayaking or other recreational opportunities. Not a good idea, according to Sgt. Knott, who spoke this past Wednesday during an appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.”
Similar cautions from the weather service for the Kalamazoo River near New Richmond in Allegan County were also issued this week, although the flood waters weren’t as high or as dangerous as in the Grand River.
