Fred Jacobs, 97, much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of Holland, went to be with his Lord and Savior to celebrate Easter on April 3, 2023. Born on February 11, 1926, to Herman and Sena (Volkema) Jacobs, Fred spent his life as a building contractor in West Michigan, building numerous houses, churches, and commercial buildings.
In retirement, he worked as a volunteer builder in Central America and Africa, and as a furniture maker for his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Irene De Kleine Jacobs, and siblings Anna Elzinga, Beatrice, Stanley, and Nelson Jacobs. He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Betty Gemmen Roon Jacobs, his children, David and Lois (Katherine, Rachel, and Ian Gainor, Laura and Adam Davie and Adam), Mary and John Kuiper (Elizabeth and Matt Kolenda, Aaron and Samantha, Isaac, and Deborah), Nancy Jacobs and Peter Heywood (Wesley Heywood and Ela Heywood) and Christine and Dirk Mouw (Willem and Kathryn and Peter and Natalie Sytsma), 8 great-grandchildren as well as his brother Harvey Jacobs, sisters-in-law Esther DeKleine and Rose VanVliet and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 6 to 8 pm at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland. The funeral will be Saturday, April 8 at Third Christian Reformed Church, 10 West Central Avenue, Zeeland at 2:00 pm, with visitation from 1:00 pm-1:45 pm prior to the service.
