ALLENDALE, MI (WTVB) – Because of escalating coronavirus cases tied to the university, all Grand Valley State University students living in Allendale Township are being ordered to stay in their on- or off-campus residence at all times, with some exceptions, for the next 14 days.
The Ottawa County Department of Public Health Wednesday issued the mandatory stay-at-home order for all GVSU students in Allendale Township beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, September 17, and ending at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, October 1.
Students cannot return to their home address unless for an emergency, according to a health department news release.
The health department says there have been more than 600 coronavirus cases tied to Grand Valley since August 23, when many students returned to campus, according to the health department. The school, which has around 25,000 student, the fall semester August 31. It is offering a mix of in-person and virtual classes this fall.
