KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Today is officially Oberon Day in the City of Kalamazoo, to honor the seasonal beer that helped make Bell’s Brewery one of the biggest brewers in the Midwest.
Bell’s plans rollout parties all over their distribution network as the craft beer makes its annual debut. They tapped their first kegs at midnight this morning at the Eccentric Cafe downtown.
Bell’s Executive Vice President Carrie Yunker says it’s a big day for the firm and her staff.
While the company now distributes beer to most of the Eastern United States, Yunker says they remain committed to Kalamazoo, as founder Larry Bell transitions to retirement.
The local plan today is for a pub crawl to eight local establishments downtown from 3:00-10:00 p.m. starting at HopCat.
Kalamazoo City Hall will be lit in Oberon’s colors today as part of the celebration.
