ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man has been charged for an assault in Allegan County that took place in 2021.
24-year-old Richard Lee-Raymond Ward-Perry was arraigned Wednesday, March 8 in the 57th District Court in Allegan for Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than murder and Felonious Assault.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, the charges stem from the assault upon 86-year-old William Simpson in November of 2021.
Authorities say the incident occurred at the Circle K gas station in Otsego Township when both Ward-Perry and Simpson got into an argument over a gas pump.
During the argument, Simpson was struck in the face by Ward-Perry, then transported to a hospital where he later died from causes not directly related to the assault.
