Marion Hofman, age 88 of Wyoming, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Marion dreamed of a career in fashion design after graduation from high school. While working to fund that dream, she crossed paths with Dale Hofman. She put her dream on hold and they married in 1956. Together they established a family based on their strong Christian faith which they passed on to their children. Over the 66 ½ years of their marriage, they were blessed with 4 children, 14 grandchildren plus 10 of their spouses and 14 great-grandchildren. Marion loved each and every one of them for their individual uniqueness. She was their biggest cheerleader and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. She celebrated their successes and empathized with their disappointments, always encouraging them to try again. Marion loved Christmas and went so far as to purchase a larger house so kids and grandkids would be there on Christmas morning. The family, local and visiting, gathered every Sunday after church for coffee and cookies with Grandma and Grandpa. Family was a loose term for Dale and Marion’s clan. If you were a friend of any of their brood, you were family. Loved and accepted.
Marion felt strongly about opportunities for girls. She was instrumental in the addition of the Girl’s Varsity Tennis Team at Holland Christian. Marion always took a strong stance on doing what was right. As her son said “ If she thought it was right she would take it to the mat “ like a wrestler going for the pin. The women in the family, young and old, have followed suit. She instilled strength of character and a sense of responsibility towards others in her entire family.
When her health was good. Marion enjoyed doing bus tours to the east coast to see the brilliant autumn colors. She also enjoyed spending the winter in Florida. She and Dale were always attending special events for grandkids, whether it was Grandparents Day at school, high school and college graduations, or weddings and baptisms. Her passing leaves a large void in all our lives. She will be missed.
