PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage Northern High School Tuesday morning was one of several in the state that were targeted in a prank, claiming there was an active shooter at the building.
At 9:35 a.m. Tuesday a call came into the Portage Department of Public Safety Information Center reporting an active shooter at the high school. The caller claimed that multiple shots had been fired.
Within minutes, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the school, including the Portage Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and federal officers.
City officials say due to the quick response by law enforcement and coordination with Portage Public Schools officials, it was immediately determined that the threat was false. Additional information established that this was a prank affecting multiple school districts across the state.
They say the Portage Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the incident in conjunction with Michigan State Police and the FBI.
