PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 1, 2023) – A 21-year-old Holland man has been arraigned on charges stemming from an early Monday morning disturbance at a North Side residence, with more counts against him perhaps forthcoming.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, deputies were dispatched to a manufactured home in the Holiday West Village off of Butternut Drive south of the West Ottawa High School campus around 2:20 AM. That was where Damion Edward Norwood purportedly was armed with a handgun and had fired several rounds, but nobody was struck and no property damage was noted. Norwood surrendered without incident on an unrelated warrant.
While investigating the matter, detectives learned that Norwood may have been involved in an apparently robbery of a gas station in the city of Holland shortly after midnight that morning, and that he was involved in a similar felonious assault incident outside of an apartment unit on the Grand Valley State University main campus in Allendale on January 14th. In that situation, one man had pointed a gun at another man in the parking lot, but no shots were fired, and no arrests were made at the time.
Norwood was arraigned on Tuesday in Holland District Court on concealed weapon, felonious assault, and firearms aiming without malice charges stemming from the Holiday West Village incident, with Judge Juanita Bocanegra ordering him held on $250,000 bond. The other two matters in Holland and Allendale remain under investigation, and more charges could be forthcoming.
Sparks added that the case against Norwood is still open, and anyone with any information on these incidents is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
