Alan James Beagley

Alan James Beagley was born in Tatsfield, Surrey, England. As a young adult, Alan emigrated to Australia and made his life there. Alan’s spiritual and intellectual curiosity led him to pursue a doctorate in Theology at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA. In 1986, Alan married Jeanette Koolhaas. He joined her in service in Taiwan as a missionary of the Reformed Church in America, learned Chinese, and taught classes there. In 1987 they were joined by a son, Jonathan.
The Beagley family moved back to the United States, to Holland MI to study. Alan and Jeanette became ordained ministers in the RCA. Together they served two congregations, in Detroit, MI, and in Long Island, NY. They returned to Holland-Zeeland when Alan retired. He was active in the Amateur Radio Club and served for years at the Community Kitchen. Alan is a former member of Third Reformed Church, and most recently, of St. Willibrord’s Antiochian Orthodox Church.
Alan was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet; his parents James and Milicent (Gambold) Beagley. He is survived by his wife Jeanette of 37 years; son Jonathan (Olivier), AU; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, many cousins, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Third Reformed Church on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 3 pm, with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to Holland’s Community Action House “Community Kitchen”. https://www.communityactionhouse.org/community-kitchen.
