HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 24, 2023) – Put together three topics of note in the Holland area – affordable housing, teacher retention, and Mayor Nathan Bocks’ campaign slogan of “…and we get to live here!” – and one gets the thrust of a new initiative disclosed by Holland Public Schools on Tuesday morning.
The district unveiled its “Teachers Live Here” effort to not only attract new instructors, but to keep them through footing the down payment on a home mortgage for educators who stay in the district for five additional years. Funding for the initiative comes from what district officials would only say is “an investment from an anonymous donor in the City of Holland who supports Holland Public Schools and HPS Teachers.”
Superintendent Nick Cassidy knows the value of investing in education.
One of the members of a new “Teachers Live Here” committee created by the initiative, Jubiliee Ministries’ Executive Director Steve Grose, said in a district statement, “The financial benefits of this program are significant for educators. TEACHERS LIVE HERE will help make it possible for more of them to live in the same community as their students. Not only is this a win for teachers, but it’s a win for their students and for the Holland community.”
More information on the initiative is available at teacherslivehere.com.
