Greener, David R. Sr. David R Greener Sr., husband of Adeline Christine Greener, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 5, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family. David was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 1, 1940. He was the son of Albert Phillip and Helen Catherine Hubbell. Dave Greener was a successful businessman at an early age. He was the youngest Shell owner in his time at the age 22. He followed in his father’s footsteps of being a mechanic and owning a Shell station. He also served in the Army and was known for his cooking. He met his wife in Detroit and later moved his family to Holland, Michigan to start his legacy. He owed a Shell station on River and Douglas for over 20 years. He became involved in selling cars and eventually opened up his own Auto center. Greener’s Auto center is still a successful business run by his son David Greener Jr. and his daughter, Susan Greener-Grotenhuis. In his spare time, he fell in love with Grand Valley University Football and became their equipment manager. He whipped those boys in to shape and traveled with them to 11 championship games. He loved cheering from the sidelines and supporting the players and coaches. David was also an avid wood worker. One of Dave’s biggest claim to fame is the “Greener on the Grill” at Railside Golf Club. He provided a feast for all the golfers on Friday nights displaying his cooking talent on the grill. He is survived by his wife, Adeline C Greener of Byron Center, Mi; his son David R Greener Jr and his wife Gina of Holland, Michigan and their children David R Greener III, Dacia Breuker and her husband, Jeremy; his daughters, Susan Grotenhuis and her husband Kraig of West Olive, Michigan and their children Ashley and Tyler; Tammy Arado and her husband Chad of Lebanon, New Hampshire and their children Mason and Nolan.
