Four Hope College student-athletes have been chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week in their respective sports: women’s soccer forward Emma Dutmers, football kicker Dylan Hillger, women’s cross country runner Ana Tucker, and men’s cross country runner Connor Vachon.
Dutmers (Traverse City, Michigan / Central HS) is the MIAA Women’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the week for the first time in her career.
The senior scored the winning goal 3 minutes, 13 seconds into overtime on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium to lift the Flying Dutch to a 1-0 victory in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals against Kalamazoo College.
Dutmers shared the team lead with seven goals this season.
Hillger (Holly, Michigan / Lake Fenton) is the MIAA Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
The senior kicked a 23-yard field goal and converted all nine PAT attempts during a 66-20 victory against Kalamazoo College on Saturday in the regular-season home finale at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.
Hillger also averaged 63.3 yards per kickoff on 11 attempts and recorded four touchbacks.
Tucker (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) is the MIAA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in her cross country career.
The senior exercise science major led the Flying Dutch to their seventh MIAA championship in a row on Saturday by clocking a winning 6K time of 20 minutes, 52.2 seconds at Shepherd High School in Shepherd, Michigan.
Tucker became Hope’s seventh MIAA women’s cross country champion.
Vachon (Jenison, MIchigan / Jenison) is the MIAA Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season and in his cross country career.
The sophomore computer science and education major recorded a winning 8K time of 24 minutes. 21.2 seconds at the MIAA Championships on Saturday at Shepherd High School in Shepherd, Michigan.
Vachon became Hope’s first men’s cross country champion in 36 years and the 14th overall. Vachon helped the Flying Dutchmen finish runner-up in the team standings in the closest race since 1986.
