First of all, Merry Christmas to all of
you!
Yes, this blog has been a casualty of
all that has gone on over the past six months or so, with the extra
responsibilities that have come along as a result. We apologize.
As 2019 comes to an end next Tuesday
night, the turmoil that this nation has been continues to be a
concern. We are far from being the “United” States of America,
and while some may downplay any alarms that the deepening and
seemingly unsolvable political divide has created in this country,
the fact that there now appears to be nothing in common that binds us
together makes this turmoil more concerning.
Not since the Civil War has the USA
been this divided, and it will take not only a generation, but
probably a cataclysmic event, before Americans are drawn back
together. The analogy of a seemingly solid tree rotting from the
inside before it suddenly comes crashing down is still the best
description of what looms for this nation in the next decade that
begins next Wednesday.
Besides the political divide, the US is
also divided on its “values.” Inclusion and diversity are
celebrated as never before, but the standard of tolerance in American
society today is apparently hypocritical. The intolerance of those
who are intolerant of the intolerant is appalling.
A buzzword that has developed over the
past few years has been “transparency.” We seek “transparency”
in our elected leaders, then wonder why fewer and fewer people want
to run for office when mistakes made years ago in the past “suddenly”
emerge at the more inopportune time … or the right time for an
ambitious person or group who stands to benefit from the apparent
disqualification of a political opponent for being human. We wonder
why elected leaders don't hold live “town hall” meetings when
those who attend – many not even constituents of such leaders – are
bent only on disruption and looking to seize attention and power for
themselves. Just remember, the only Person who ever lived on Earth
that never made a mistake was nailed to a Cross.
And yet, we march on to the third
decade of this century looking to “Keep America Great,” as
President Trump is basing his reelection campaign on. Let's hope that
this is more than just a slogan when we look back at the 2020's at
this time 10 years from now … if we are still here, 10 years from
now.
Thanks!
