Sue Ann Vliet, age 81 of Holland, MI, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
Sue was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Sue had a lifelong interest in all animals, especially cats and horses—where she won state championships and judged horse shows. Sue was a graduate of Michigan State University. She was a member of Christ Memorial Church in Holland and enjoyed participating in the Holland Quilting Club, book clubs, and the Holland Garden Club. When living in the Gull Lake area, she was an active leader in 4-H, teaching young people skills including cooking and sewing.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vaughn Braid of Northern Michigan, her brother, John Braid, who died in Vietnam, and her brother-in-law, Fred Stearns of St. Ignace.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Ronald C. Vliet; children: Deborah Ann Vliet of Holland, Alan and Jean Vliet of Chicago; grandson: Austin J. O’Malley IV of Boston; in-laws: Gordon and Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet of Tucson, Cheryl Stearns of St. Ignace, Walter Bruce and Linda Vliet of Denver; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance and celebration will take place at 2 pm on Sue Ann’s 82
nd
birthday, January 19, 2019 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16
th
Street, Holland, MI 49424. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions are to Christ Memorial Church and West Michigan Humane Society.
